I wrote this about 16 years ago while trying to work at my dream of becoming a publisher. Hmmmm.

GIVING TO THE NEEDY

In this edition we’re going to be looking at what should be given to the needy?  Who are the needy?  How can the needy give back to the society?  Are the needy helpless or lazy?

WHO ARE THE NEEDY?

A needy could be said to be a person lacking the necessities of life like food, clothes, job, shelter etc.

There are several situations that could make a person a needy.  This situations include poverty, accident, ignorance and laziness.

Lets examine these words one after the other as follows:

Poverty: This is a state of being poor; while being poor means not able to get the necessaries of life or having little.

Accident: This is something that happens without a cause that can be seen at once or something unfortunate.

Ignorance: This is a state of being ignorant, while ignorant is knowing little or nothing.

Laziness: The act of not willing to work or be active.

A needy person could be a person who has a result of accident, ignorance or laziness became poor.  A needy person is a person in need of help, this brings us to what should be given to the needy.

WHAT SHOULD I GIVE TO THE NEEDY?

Anytime you can see someone in need, and you want to help what should come to your mind first should be, what do I give?  What does this needy person need?  Is this person able?  How old is the person, I want to help?  I assure you that, by the time you could answer this questions, you would have helped yourself, the society and the needy.

It is obvious, that a beggar, who is shabbly dressed and looking dirty, begging for alms, would need clothes, food and a job, if the person is not very old and incapable of working. 

You could help by giving the person food and clothes or money for food, and clothes.  Talking of job, it might happen that you don’t have a job to give this needy person.  But you could help by may be buying some bags of pure water or sachet of sweet for the needy person to start a small sales; if he or she is willing to work and not lazy.  If the needy person is not ready to work, then you are not in position  to help such a person.

HOW CAN THE NEEDY GIVE BACK TO THE SOCIETY

The needy could give back to the society by not being lazy and by making a wise use of whatever they are helped with.  It is also very important that the needy, who begs on the streets and roads, don’t go back to the roads and streets after they have been helped with something to provide their daily needs.

ARE THE NEEDY HELPLESS OR LAZY?

When a needy person is not willing to work, he or she appears not to be helpless but lazy.  On the other hand, if a needy person is ready to work and willing to stop begging, then you can say such a person is not lazy but helpless  and that is the kind of person I advice we help.

Keep up the good work, don’t get tired.  Our target is to have the spirit of loyalty and devotion that unites the members of a society which is our name “ES PRIT”.  See you by the next edition.
