Employment/Unemployment And it's Effect on Moral/Cultural Values (Part One)
If you have the opportunity to get a good job in one of the leading firms In the world, but what you have to do to secure the job is, tell lies about some or all of these; your work experience, age , marital status, home address/proximity to the office station, tribe, and Your skills, what would you do? Well, its a simple question with straight forward answer depending on where you stand with the moral and cultural values in your society.
Culture Is defined as the ideas, customs and Social behaviour of a particular people or society. According to businessdictionary.com, Cultural value is defined as: The commonly held standards of what is acceptable or unacceptable, important or unimportant, right or wrong, workable or unworkable, etc., in a community or society(Read more: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/cultural-values.html#ixzz3HY2Oml2m). This brings me to these questions, who sets the values now? What is the culture in our societies now? What is right and wrong? Does the means justify the end? Hold those thoughts, don't answer the questions just yet.
Moral values refer to a set of principles that guide an individual on how to evaluate right versus wrong. People generally apply moral values to justify decisions, intentions and actions, and it also defines the personal character of a person. An individual with high moral values typically displays characteristics of integrity, courage, respect, fairness, honesty and compassion (According to Ask.com).
Is it morally right to Implicate your colleagues to get close to the head of your unit at your workplace? Is it morally acceptable for you to victimise your employee, simply because she refused to have sex with you? Is it okay for you to sleep with your boss to get a promotion?
The truth is, if asked at one point or the other, everyone would has reasons which may be convincing or not to explain why they fall short of their moral and cultural values.
Therefore, how do we tell who the victim is in confusing situations? In every situation, there is atleast one other choice. Making that choice may not be easy, considering what we stand to loose or gain
from making those other choices.
