My name is Chioma Okwu, I am a Fashion designer and a makeup artist (Lemani).

Chioma Okwu (Lemani)
Well, it all started when I was much younger, I used to create outfits for my dolls out of left over pieces of fabrics or anything I could lay my hands on at the time.
As I grew older I started sketching styles for my tailor to make clothes for me, most of which did not
come out as I wanted. So I enrolled for sewing lessons because I've always had a passion for fashion
and that's how I began to make clothes.

I've always loved to makeup as well, so I experiment on myself n my sisters at home, went for a few trainings / classes and that was it...

Hmmm, I would say my current challenge is lack of space and manpower because I am looking to expanding the business.
I don't allow my emotions to get in d way of my career.
I would say my successes and achievements come from satisfied customers. Seeing that my work is being appreciated and recommended to others worldwide is a huge achievement for me and I only aspire to get better at what I do.
The burning desire to be better at what I do and recognized someday as one of the top designers in Africa motivates me.
Personally, I don't think Nigeria or the politics of the country affects my business.
Well, I hope that parents will encourage / support their young ones to be industrious. Beauty and fashion institutes should do more (organize talent hunt shows, workshops, etc) to encourage those with passion for beauty and style....
Too many people strive to be known..not realizing that you can't be celebrated when u don't have SUBSTANCE... So instead of building themselves, they spend money in publicity, only for people to realize later that they're empty...
My advice: get substance! upgrade urself...make sure u're extremely good at what you do..get involved in researches...come up with good ideas, and naturally u'll be celebrated... because being celebrated is just a byproduct of the impact u make overtime.
